Notes:

Do I need to open the blister? What do I do if it opened accidentally?

A blister should not be opened because the blister's membrane protects against infection. Even if a blister has been opened, the remaining skin layer should not be removed. In both cases it is important to protect the wound from external influences and contamination. The affected area should be cleaned and dried carefully before applying a bandage. If the blister is already open use additional disinfection. Elastoplast SOS Blister bandages with their hydrocolloid technology relieve pain caused by pressure and friction immediately and create an ideal moist wound healing environment that allows the wound to heal faster. During the healing process, the blister is safely sealed and protected from dirt and bacteria.

SOS Blister Pads:

The SOS blister pad is useful when you did not get to the hot spot in time and you got the blister as a result. Now you not only have to protect it, it has to heal. Hydrocolloid wound dressings ensure faster and more beautiful healing as they provide a moist environment, which accelerates wound repair and reduces the risk of scarring. Further, they cushion the wound and thus relieve pain and pressure. The hydrocolloidal matrix is very flexible, waterproof yet breathable and permeable to water vapour. Also, hydrocolloidal wound dressings are tolerated very well by sensitive skin. Hydrocolloids are thickening, gelling and stabilizing agents. They are able to absorb water and wound fluid, swell and form a gel. Due to their high water retention capacity (even under pressure) excess of wound fluid is locked away. Hence, hydrocolloidal dressings take up wound fluid to form a gel that produces a moist environment which facilitates fast healing. The SOS blister pad works on the principle of moist wound healing.

The idea of moist wound healing was born in 1962 when George D. Winter discovered that epithelization, the process of wound closure, would proceed twice as fast in a moist environment than under a scab. Today, the principle of moist healing is generally accepted in the professional field, where many products have been developed for the healing of chronic wounds via moist wound therapy.

Covering a wound with a moist wound healing product creates an ideal wound climate which will...

  • Enable most favourable conditions for wound closure (epithelization), the formation of new tissue and the immune system.
  • Let the healing process remain undisturbed and ensure faster healing.
  • Prevent scab formation to optimize cell migration and reduce the likelihood of scarring.

Instructions:

  1. In case a blister has already formed, apply patch on the intact blister. For open blisters additional desinfection is recommended.
  2. Apply on clean, dry skin.
  3. Press the bandage on firmly and smooth down.
  4. The bandage should only be changed when it peels off by itself.
  5. If diabetic do not use unless approved by doctor first.
